Day
1 Surat Thani - Khao Sok National Park
Pick up from the morning ferry from Samui or
from trainstation or airport in Surat Thani
(please advise time) and drive to the man-made
water reservoir that covers almost 10% of Khao
Sok National Park, one of the most important
connected areas of tropical rain forest in Southern
Thailand. A boat trip across the huge lake,
will bring you to a floating ranger station
hidden in a small bay amidst rain-forest covered
hills one hour later. Have lunch on the raft
and go on a trek in the afternoon. Depending
on weather conditions and the water level of
the lake, the walk will take about one and a
half hour in one direction. The trail is not
difficult, does not have any steep inclinations,
but some climbs over fissured rocks
are necessary and the river has to be crossed
several times. Your destination is a cave in
the rain forest, where you will have time to
explore the subterranean river. You can even
decide (depending on weather conditions, the
water level and the advise of the accompanying
ranger) to return part of the way back through
the cave. Otherwise, you will return back on
the same way to reach the raft houses in time
for dinner. Accommodation in one of the small
floating bungalows, that are equipped with thin
mattresses on the ground. The communal toilet
and bathroom are built on the shore. |

arrival to a resort built at the margins of
the national park. Rest
of the day at leisure for relaxing at the swimming
pool, that is fed by a waterfall coming down
the slope. Accommodation in simple bungalows
with private bathroom. |

to one of the lesser known fishing harbours
on the Andaman Coast. An open boat brings

one of the last unspoilt islands on Thailand’s
south-western coast: Phra Thong Island. On arrival
check in at the simple bungalows, that are equipped
with double bed, moscitonet and a private bathroom
with shower and toilet. The rest of the day
is free at leisure to discover the small peninsula,
where the resort is located and the adjacent
Golden Buddha Beach, that extends for about
11 kilometres to the South and is the last refuge
for the egg-laying turtles. You are invited
to a superb Thai-style seafood dinner at sunset
time. |
